" It was an amazing experience from beginning to end. I would highly recommend Rural Rivers to anyone looking for an affordable, fun and memorable canoe / kayak rental service."

We rented a three-person canoe yesterday for 2.5 hrs on the rural river route, and we will definitely be coming back. The rental is incredible value compared to others in the area, and the rural river route from the property is stunning. Zack was really knowledgeable about the route and the history of the area. I wish we had discovered this sooner - by far our best canoeing experience in the greater Edmonton area.

Paddling the Sturgeon River is highly dependent on precipitation levels throughout the Winter, Spring and Summer.
Last Summer in 2021 we experience some of the lowest river conditions in recent memory making it quite unfavorable for boats. Beaver Dams and low/shallow spots, as well as algae and plant life also contribute to the difficulty.
When the water is low, its extremely difficult to get from the Cunningham Bridge to Riel Recreation Park
we will be offering a revised version of this route, that doesn't involve paddling across the lake
all rentals include:
what to bring
All of our rentals come with paddles, life jackets, whistles & bilge pumps. Each canoe/kayak has limited storage space for additional items so a small dry bag is encouraged.
Water / Sunscreen / Bugspray / Hat / Sunglasses / Extra pair of clothes in case you get wet.
Sandals with straps are recommended, otherwise, shoes that you're not afraid to get muddy/wet will do the trick.
Snacks / Lunch
Dry-Bag for Electronics
Garbage / Recycling Bag
